Nokia 5000 with Free Line Rental

The latest phone to be offered with 12 months free line rental is the Nokia 5000. First impressions are that the Nokia 5000 is a very ordinary looking mobile phone. However, this is what you would expect from an entry level mobile phone targeting new / developing markets. As one would expect from an entry level mobile phone, the Nokia 5000 is very cheap, costing just $125. One of the real strengths of the Nokia 5000 within this price bracket it the number of features you can get for your money. The nokia 5000 is far more advanced than other mobile phones selling in this price bracket.

The Nokia 5000 comes equipped with Bluetooth for wireless conenctivity, a 1.3 mega pixel camera for you to snap away with, an FM radio to keep you entertained, a web browser to keep you up to date with current events, a 2" 240x320 pixel display (which is exceptional within this price bracket), an email client to help you keep in touch with friends and a range of PIM functions. All this runs on the tried and tested Nokia S40 operating system.

Furthermore the Nokia 5000 includes a multimedia player capable of playing MP3 files for you to listen to. Unfortunately Nokia saw fit to equip this mobile phone with just 12MB of internal memory, worse still, this phone has no memory card expansion slot, so, you may find yourself listening to the same tracks over and over!

A major limitation of the Nokia 5000 is that it is only a dual band phone (900 - 1800 / 850 - 1900 MHz) which means it cannot be used / sold in certain territories. This is a real limitation if you travel a lot and want to use your mobile phone in any country. If you do travel a lot with your mobile phone, then the Nokia 5000 is probably not for you, and you should look for a tri band phone instead.

It is very surprising that the Nokia 5000 mobile phone is lacking an expansion slot, as this is not an expensive addition for a mobile phone, and really limits the phones uses in terms of multimedia / photography. Nokia could easily have included a memory expansion slot with this phone and still kept it within a comparable price bracket. The lack of a memory expansion slot is even more surprising when looking at the other features that are included with the Nokia 5000 mobile phone.

The battery life of the Nokia 5000 is stated as being up to 14 days standby time and 4 hours 45 minutes talk time. The Nokia 5000 handset is very neat and convenient to carry, weighing just 74 grams.

In summary, this is a great phone for the price, and benefits as ever from Nokia's practical approach to design and intuitive user interface. For the price it is hard to beat with a vastly superior display to most other phones within this price bracket.

The Nokia 5000 will be available during Q2 2008 in a variety of colour combinations, and, as a budget phone you can be sure it will be available with 12 months free line rental.
